The World's Largest Radio Telescope FAST
The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) is situated within Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province, China. It stands as a key scientific and technological infrastructure project under China's 11th Five-Year Plan.
FAST has initiated a novel paradigm for the construction of colossal telescopes. This radio telescope features a reflecting surface area equivalent to that of 30 football fields. Its sensitivity exceeds 2.5 times that of the world's second-largest telescope. By doing so, it substantially broadens the scope of human exploration, serving as a powerful tool for delving into the origin and evolution of the universe.
As a world-leading facility, China's "FAST" has extremely stringent technical requirements. After winning the bid for the project, our company took on the important task of providing high-precision corner cube prisms for the FAST project. During the construction of FAST, these prisms served as measurement targets. By cooperating with total stations, they enabled the precise installation of each panel of FAST with an error within 0.1 millimeters. Through one month of high-standard, strict and precise collaboration, we completed the production of 2,500 high-precision corner cube prisms. Currently, these reflective prisms are still in operation. They will assist in the continuous monitoring of the panels, help the radio telescope with "focusing", and conduct precise data measurement.
